Walk-in

Mater Private Hospital in Eccles Street offers a walk-in service for X-ray Monday – Friday | 8am - 4:30pm.

You must have a referral from a doctor for an X-ray and you must bring it with you. If you have private health insurance, you may need to pay at the time of the procedure and submit a claim to your insurance provider afterwards for reimbursement.

If you require an X-ray for a medical visa, please note that our walk-in service for X-ray is not available. Instead, please book your appointment directly through our Visa Medical department by emailing visacentre@materprivate.ie

  • Cork Hospital: Monday – Friday: 8am - 6pm (by appointment only)

Access to our radiology service

Please note that we don’t accept self-referral. In order to book a radiology appointment, we require a written referral letter from a medical practitioner registered in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland.

Each referral must be written, justified with adequate clinical information, and take account of previous procedures and non-radiation alternatives. Please download our radiology referral form.

For justification, we recommend the use of the IREFER guidelines which are available on the website (www.irefer.org.uk).

Please be advised that Mater Private radiology department only accepts referrals from medical practitioners registered in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland who meet the criteria in SI 256 2018 and SI 30 2019.

Triage process

Our radiology department receives and triages the referral letters. We give priority to urgent referrals. Once your referral letter is triaged, the scheduling team at Mater Private will contact you to arrange an appointment.
