About our service
Mater Private rheumatology service provides personalised care for patients with all types of joint and musculoskeletal-related (MSK) disorders, along with autoimmune and inflammatory disorders.
The conditions that they treat include all types of inflammatory arthritis (including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and inflammatory back pain). Connective tissue diseases like SLE (lupus) and other autoimmune-related conditions are also evaluated and treated. In addition, patients with crystal-related arthritis conditions including gout and pseudogout are evaluated and accurately diagnosed using polarised microscopy.
Sports medicine
Sports medicine is concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries due to athletic activity. Our consultants have expertise in a wide range of sports-related conditions, exercise prescription, DEXA interpretation and care of elderly patients with MSK problems including osteoporosis.
Our team
There is a strong multidisciplinary focus of the group through multi-disciplinary team meetings with experts in musculoskeletal (MSK) radiology who provide accurate interpretation of imaging along with image-guided injections. The rheumatology group also work with their colleagues in orthopaedic surgery, sports medicine and other related specialities to provide a comprehensive MSK service.
