Education & Experience
Dr. John Stack graduated from University College Cork and completed his medical training at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Dublin. In 2016 he was awarded an Irish Society for Rheumatology funded fellowship at Kings College Hospital, London. As clinical fellow at Kings College Hospital, Dr. Stack developed specialist expertise in treating patients with myositis, vasculitis, and connective tissue disease.
Following successful completion of the fellowship in 2017, Dr. Stack was appointed Consultant Rheumatologist and Clinical Lead for Rheumatology at Kings College Hospital. He returned to the Mater Hospital in 2020, appointed to the position of Consultant Rheumatologist and General Physician, serving as Head of the Department of Rheumatology since 2024.
In addition to his ongoing Rheumatology leadership role, Dr. Stack is currently serving a 3-year term as Clinical Director of Acute Neuroscience, Speciality and Rehabilitation Medicine at the Mater Hospital. Dr. Stack currently holds an ongoing appointment as Assistant Clinical Professor at University College Dublin. He commenced practice at Mater Private Dublin in May 2026.
Special Interests
Dr. Stack has a special interest in the areas of crystal arthritis, inflammatory arthritis, vasculitis, myositis and connective tissue disease.
Clinical Research & Professional Memberships
Dr. Stack has a research MD from University College Cork and has peer-reviewed publications in the areas of rheumatoid arthritis, crystal arthritis, vasculitis and myositis. He is associate editor for the journal ‘Rheumatology’. He is a board member of Arthritis Ireland since 2024. He is a member of the Irish Society for Rheumatology and is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.
