Otology is concerned with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the ear. Otologists use both medicine and surgery in their treatment of ear-related conditions.
Surgeries provided by Mater Private Network include:
- Microscopic inspection and debridement - use of a microscope to examine the ear and to remove any unwanted foreign objects or other materials.
- Myringotomy - to drain out built up fluids from the eardrum, and grommet insertion.
- Tympanoplasty - ear drum repair.
- Mastoidectomy - to remove an infected part of the bone behind the ear when medical treatment is not effective.
- Ossiculoplasty - to repair, reconstruct and improve the movement of the three tiny bones in the middle ear to restore hearing.
- Stapedotomy - to replace the stapes with an artificial bone made of plastic or metal.
Patients are commonly referred to an ENT specialist for nasal-related (rhinology) issues. There are many nasal diseases including rhinitis (inflammation inside the nose) which can affect up to 50% of the population.
Surgeries provided by Mater Private Network include:
- Septoplasty - to correct a deviated septum by straightening the septum, allowing for better airflow through your nose.
- Septorhinoplasty - to reshape and resize the nose and straighten a deviated nasal septum.
- Turbinate surgery - a relatively simple operation to open up the nasal airways and relieve chronic congestion, pain, and inflammation in the nose.
- Endoscopic sinus surgery - to remove blockages in the sinuses that can cause sinusitis.
The voice box is located on the front of the neck and it holds the vocal cords. It’s responsible for sound production and swallowing. Voice disorders are managed by our specialist ENT surgeons in conjunction with speech and language therapists.
Surgeries provided by Mater Private Network include:
- Microlaryngeal surgery - a minimally invasive procedure used to biopsy or remove abnormal growths in the larynx. It is usually performed to correct voice disorders or to diagnose or treat laryngeal cancer.
- LASER laryngeal surgery - a minimally invasive surgery that uses special lasers to treat diseases of the vocal cord, including benign lesions, cancer of the vocal cord, and tumors.
