About our services
Head and neck endocrine surgery is a subspecialty of general surgery that focuses predominantly on thyroid cancer and parathyroid glands. This type of surgery is performed by either general or ENT surgeons with appropriate interest and training.
Where appropriate, the surgeons will liaise with endocrinologists in deciding on the appropriate treatment options for patients. We hold significant expertise in this sub-speciality as many of our surgical and medical team work across the Mater campus.

Prior to treatment, a number of investigative steps are taken. This may include laboratory, radiology tests or procedures. Fortunately, all of these investigations can be undertaken on site.
Treatment may include lifestyle changes, medication and/or surgery. Minimally invasive procedures are used where possible when surgery is required, which provides the benefit of a quicker recovery, less pain, better healing and aesthetic and a shorter hospital stay.

As soon as you arrive at Mater Private Dublin, you will be greeted by a staff member at a designated patient entrance inthe main hospital to direct you to the location of your appointment.
We ask all patients to wear a face covering at all times after entering the hospital. If you’re wearing gloves on arrival, you will be asked to remove them and sanitize your hands.
Hand sanitizer dispensers are located at the entrance and around the hospital, and we encourage and promote the practice of good hand hygiene.
All patients are asked to arrive on time for their scheduled appointment.
Where possible, we ask that patients attend unaccompanied, in order to reduce the number of people inside the hospital. Our staff are available to aid patients who need assistance with mobility. In special circumstances where support from a family member or friend is required, we ask patients to kindly inform staff by telephone at the time of booking their appointment. Approval will be requested from the infection prevention and control team for a maximum of one person to accompany the patient during their visit.
Our team
The surgeons have extensive expertise in the diagnosis, treatment and management of these conditions. They work as part of a wider team which may include endocrinologists, diagnostic/interventional radiologists, pathologists, specialist nurses and other allied health professionals. Treatment is tailored for each patient.
