About this service

"One admission, one price and one recovery"

If you are experiencing pain or immobility in both of your joints (hips or knees), and your quality of life is being greatly affected, you may be a candidate for a bilateral or simultaneous joint replacement.

Bilateral surgery has many advantages including:

  • A single surgical event
  • A single episode of anaesthesia
  • Shorter overall hospital stay
  • Ability to rehabilitate both new hips at the same time
  • Less time off work overall
  • More cost-effective than two separate surgeries

The risks involved include greater blood loss, more prolonged surgery and anaesthesia and longer in-hospital recovery and rehabilitation.

Our consultants will discuss the pros and cons of bilateral surgery with you at an initial pre-operative consultation and will determine the most appropriate course of action based on your overall profile and your needs and safety.
