About our services

Mater Private Network in Dublin, we were the first and only Irish hospital to offer spinal fusion surgery supported by ExcelsiusGPS™ surgical guidance technology.

The ExcelsiusGPS™ robot enables improved visualisation and precision during surgery. Similar to a GPS navigation system in a car, the ExcelsiusGPS™ robot guides the placement of instruments and implants through a rigid robotic arm that orients the surgeon along a guided pathway.  Navigation provides feedback and real-time visualisation of the positioning of implants and instruments in relation to the patient’s anatomy.

This assists Mater Private surgeons in our Orthopaedic & Spine Centre to complete more complex, delicate and minimally invasive spinal procedures.  Robotic-assisted spine surgery offers many benefits to patients:

  • Smaller incisions
  • Reduced blood loss and muscle damage
  • Less post-operative pain
  • Faster recovery

The Orthopaedic & Spine Centre in Dublin is one of only four hospitals in Europe to offer spinal fusion surgery supported by ExcelsiusGPS™ surgical guidance technology.  For patients, this is the safest and most effective way to complete the procedure. This ensures Mater Private patients receive the highest quality care using the most advanced methods and practices available.
