About
Education & Experience
Mr. Mahmoud Kamel graduated from MBBS in 1994.
He undertook training in the National Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery in Dublin, then Cork and Belfast.
Mr. Kamel completed a fellowship in skull base surgery under world-renowned Prof Al-Mefty in USA in 2008. He was appointed as NHS consultant neurosurgeon in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and honorary senior clinical lecturer in University of Aberdeen in July 2008.
Mr. Kamel was clinical lead of department of neurosurgery in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary prior to his appointment as a consultant neurosurgeon and spinal surgeon in Cork University Hospital.
Special Interests
Mr. Kamel has a wide experience in spinal disorders and neurosurgery including minimally invasive techniques and spinal navigation.
Mr. Kamel specialises in lumbar/cervical microdiscectomies, both lumbar and cervical decompressions/fusions, kyphoplasties and is also an advocate of the non-surgical management of spine pain disorders in as much as possible.
Clinical Research & Professional Memberships
Mr. Kamel completed a master’s degree in surgery. He also gained his doctorate of neurosurgery in 2002.
Mr. Kamel has published extensively in spinal and neurosurgery topics including: spinal navigation, intraoperative spinal monitoring, degenerative spinal disorders.

Member of European Society of Neurosurgeons.
