About

Education and Experience

Dr. Jill Nicholson MBBS BSc MRCP(UK) FFRRCSI is a Consultant Radiation Oncologist at Mater Private Network, Dublin. Dr. Nicholson began her career with a BSc in Therapeutic Radiography from Trinity College Dublin before earning her medical degree (MBBS) at Newcastle University. After initial medical training in London, she returned to Ireland to complete higher specialist training in Radiation Oncology with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (FFR RCSI) in 2023.

Following her specialist training, she undertook a clinical research fellowship at the St. Luke’s Institute of Cancer Research and was awarded funding to pursue an MD from Trinity College Dublin, titled “Optimising Breast Cancer Radiotherapy.” During this period, she also completed an international observership at the Duke Medical Centre in North Carolina. 


Clinical Research and Professional Membership

Dr. Nicholson focuses on breast, head and neck, and skin cancers. She is particularly interested in the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) to optimise radiotherapy pathways. She was a key member of an award-winning team that led the integration of AI into radiotherapy through clinical research and staff education. Furthermore, she co-led the OPEN trial that established 'faceless' radiotherapy masks as a new patient-centred standard of care, a breakthrough for which they won several awards, including the 2026 Irish Cancer Society Clinical Trial of the Year. Her work has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals and presented at major international conferences. 

Dr. Nicholson’s professional memberships include Fellow of the Faculty of Radiologists and Radiation Oncologists Royal College of Surgeons Ireland, European Society of Radiation Oncology (ESTRO), and EORTC Breast Cancer Group.
