Education & Experience
Dr. Francis O’Keeffe is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine with extensive international experience in major trauma and critical care resuscitation. He graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) in 2006 and completed his early emergency medicine training in Dublin before moving to Australia in 2009. There, he undertook advanced specialist training at The Alfred Hospital Emergency & Trauma Centre, a Level 1 major trauma centre and one of the busiest and most advanced trauma services in the Southern Hemisphere.
Following completion of a fellowship in trauma, Dr. O'Keeffe was appointed to dual consultant roles in both Emergency Medicine and the Alfred Trauma Service. He returned to Ireland in 2017 and was subsequently appointed Clinical Lead for Trauma at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, where he played a central role in the hospital’s designation as the inaugural Major Trauma Centre in Dublin. Dr. O'Keeffe also joined Mater Private Network in Dublin at this time. He continues to contribute to the development of trauma systems and emergency care at both national and international levels.
Clinical Research & Professional Memberships
Dr. O’Keeffe maintains close academic and clinical links with Australia and remains involved in collaborative international research, with a particular focus on trauma systems, resuscitation, and critical care. He has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in emergency medicine and trauma and continues to contribute to ongoing research activity.
