First Pulsed Field Ablation Procedure Performed at Mater Private Network in Cork
Our cardiology team at Mater Private Network in Cork performed Munster’s first electrophysiology (EP) case using Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA) with the FARAPULSETM system from Boston Scientific.
This innovative procedure introduces the latest generation of PFA technology in the south of Ireland, offering a new treatment approach for patients with atrial fibrillation. The case was led by Dr. Maheshwar Pauriah, Consultant Cardiologist, and Dr. John P. Foran, Clinical Lead / Head of Department of Cardiology in Cork, with essential support from a multidisciplinary team of EP cardiac physiologists, nurses, radiographers, anaesthesiologists, and representatives from Boston Scientific.

PFA represents a significant advancement in the field of cardiac electrophysiology. By utilising the unique non-thermal mechanism, PFA offers shorter procedure times, increased precision and improved safety for patients.
The introduction of this technology in our Cork hospital reflects our network’s ongoing commitment to innovation and excellence in cardiac care. By adopting the latest technologies and techniques, our team continues to provide advanced treatment options to patients across Cork and the wider Munster region.
This achievement underscores the strength of collaboration and the dedication of everyone involved.
