Mater Private Limerick - Best SME Winner

The MWROC was shortlisted for the award in September, having entered the process for the first time this year. The win marks a very positive conclusion to an incredibly busy year for the centre, which included several significant initiatives to enhance patient treatment and care, including:

  • The installation of a new CT scanner in March had a profound impact on operations, delivering state-of-the-art imaging with latest version CT technology to improve image quality and planning.
  • The launch of the Nourish Cookbook in April to support patients with their nutrition and diet throughout their radiation treatment for cancer.
  • The successful installation of Ireland’s first Halcyon Linear Accelerator in July, which halves radiation treatment times for patients and vastly improves comfort through its patient-centric design features.

Mater Private Network has also been at the forefront of a world-first innovation project this year which creates 3D breast prostheses for survivors of breast cancer; Dr. Lorraine Walsh, radiation oncologist at Mater Private in Limerick, was the brainchild of the pilot project which launched in May 2023.  This project is the result of a successful collaboration between the Rapid Innovation Unit at University of Limerick (UL), the Symptomatic Breast Care Unit at University Hospital Limerick (UHL), and the Mater Private Network’s Mid-Western Radiation Oncology Centre.

The MWROC has established itself as a pivotal healthcare institution in the region since opening its doors in 2005, and this award serves as recognition of our unwavering commitment to providing the best possible care to our patients through continuous research, innovation, and patient support.
