Adult cardiac and thoracic surgery, including CABG, aneurysm surgery, cardiac arrhythmia surgery, cardiac valve replacement and repair, minimally invasive surgery for benign and malignant conditions, surgery for chest wall deformity, surgery for lung cancer and other thoracic malignancy.

About

Professor Hinchion graduated with an honours degree from University College Cork in 1991 and was the winner of multiple competitive scholarships. He is trained in General Surgery and further specialised in Cardiothoracic Surgery, qualifying with both a FRCSI and a FRCS (CTh).

He has been a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon in Cork since 2006, and was responsible for introducing minimally invasive thoracic surgery techniques as well as cardiac surgery advances to the southern region of Ireland. He is widely published in a number of peer review journals and maintains an ongoing active interest in research and surgical product development. 

He has represented Ireland on behalf of the RCSI as a Board Member of the Intercollegiate Specialty Board in Cardiothoracic Surgery of the UK and Ireland from 2013 to 2023. He has also worked as an Examiner in Intercollegiate Cardiothoracic Fellowship Examinations in Cardiothoracic Surgery in the UK and Ireland for over a decade since 2012. 

He is an Inventor and winner of several Awards for patented surgical invention including the “Invention of the Year Award” and the “Pfizer Innovation through Teamwork Award.” Professor Hinchion is the Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon in Cork and the first Clinical Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery in University College Cork. He provides a comprehensive specialist cardiothoracic service based on his extensive experience and years of practice in the speciality.
