Education & Experience
Professor Andrea Lorente is a full-time Consultant Neurologist at Mater Private Network, Dublin.
Prof. Lorente previously worked at King’s College Hospital London-Dubai, UAE. Prior to this, she worked for over 13 years at the Canary University Hospital, Spain, where she completed the official neurology specialization (MIR), alongside a rotation at Trias i Pujol University Hospital in Barcelona. She obtained her Medical Degree in 2006 from the National University of Cuyo, Argentina, with her final clinical practices completed at Manacor Hospital, Mallorca, Spain.
Prof. Lorente holds 2 Master’s degrees in Neuroimmunology and in Movement Disorders from Universitat Autònoma of Barcelona and Murcia University, respectively. In 2019, she received her Neurosonology Certification from the Spanish Society of Neurology. She subsequently achieved Fellowship of European Board of Neurology (FEBN). She has been a Neurology Tutor for medical students and Teaching Assistant for neurology residents and specialties at the Medical School of La Laguna University, Spain. She also held an academic position as Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor at Gulf Medical University, UAE, and is part of the Neurology faculty for the Internal Medicine Residency Programme at King’s College Hospital London-Dubai. She joined Mater Private Network in Dublin as a Consultant Neurologist in January 2025.
Special Interests
Prof. Lorente specialises in the management of headaches and facial pain, using advanced treatments such as biologics, nerve blocks, toxin injections, among other therapies. Her practice includes the diagnosis and treatment of multiple sclerosis and demyelinating diseases, performing Eco-Doppler of intra- and extracranial vessels including carotid and intracranial stenosis, pre-operative assessments for cardiac/thoracic surgeries, ultrasound-guided lumbar punctures, optic and peripheral nerve. Prof. Lorente also treats patients with general neurological conditions including epilepsy, movement disorders, CNS inflammatory and infectious diseases, post stroke follow-up and cerebrovascular disease, sleep disorders, dementia, ataxia and neuromuscular disorders.
Clinical Research & Professional Memberships
Prof. Andrea Lorente has participated in MRI and Parkinson’s disease research, and has presented at regional, national, and international congresses. She has authored publications in several medical journals and contributed chapters to Neurology textbooks. She was a member of the Care of Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke Committee and is a member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), Spanish Society of Neurology (SEN), Demyelinating Disease Group (SEN-GEED), Cerebrovascular Group (SEN-GEECV) and Canary Islands Society of Neurology (SOCANE).
