About

Education & Experience 

Mr. Sven O hEireamhoin is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in both primary and revision arthroplasty of the hip and knee. 

He completed his undergraduate degree in University College Dublin (UCD) and was awarded the Gallagher medal for undergraduate orthopaedics.  He subsequently completed a Masters in Surgery from UCD, completing a thesis on the use of mesenchymal stem cells in chondrogenesis.  On completion of specialist training through Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) he was awarded the Mercer Medal for the Candidate in the UK and Ireland with the highest score in that years’ FRCS examinations.

Mr. O hEireamhoin undertook further training by completing a fellowship in arthroplasty with the renowned Prof. Beverland in Belfast. He then relocated to Toronto, Canada for two further fellowships in trauma and arthroplasty in St Michael’s Hospital, Toronto, and Sunnybrook Level 1 Trauma Centre, Toronto.
Mr. O hEireamhoin holds consultant posts in the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and Cappagh National Orthopaedic Hospitals. He prides himself on providing a patient centred service. In 2025 he joined Mater Private Network in Dublin.

Clinical Research & Professional Memberships 

Mr. O hEireamhoin is a fellow of the RCSI and a member of the Irish Institute for Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery (IITOS), Hip Society of Ireland (HSI) and British Hip Society (BHS). He served as BOA (British Orthopaedic Association) ambassador to the Hong Kong Orthopaedic Association annual meeting in 2017. He is the author of multiple peer-reviewed papers including articles in Bone and Joint, Tissue Engineering and The Lancet Online.
