About

Education & Experience  

Mr. Kiely graduated from UCC and completed the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland higher surgical training programme in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery FRCS, during which time, he was awarded his Master's in Surgery.  After his residency, he performed a clinical research fellowship in spine and scoliosis surgery at Hospital for Special Surgery, New York, a paediatric spine fellowship at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, Miami, and a preceptorship in spine surgery at FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital, Ghana.

Mr. Paul D. Kiely is an orthopaedic spine surgeon specialising adult scoliosis, neck and back herniations, spinal fractures, athletic injuries and spondylolysis. Mr. Kiely’s practice involves tailoring a customised approach for each patient to maximise quality of life and musculoskeletal health. This often involves adopting a sophisticated multi-disciplinary team approach to meet each of his patient’s treatment goals. Innovative procedures, biologic healing agents, and complex reconstructive spinal operations are incorporated into his practice in select patients. 

Clinical Research & Professional Memberships  

Mr. Kiely engages in research to advance the diagnosis and treatment of complex spine conditions. His areas of interest include ischaemia reperfusion injury, biologic enhancement of spinal surgery and back pain.  

Mr. Kiely has published over 30 research articles and manuscripts in prestigious medical journals, including Spine, The Spine Journal and Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (Am). He has co-authored several chapters in spinal textbooks and is a reviewer for The Spine Journal. He is the recipient of many national and international awards and honours, including the USA Caspersen Fellowship for Spine Research and Eastern Orthopaedic Association’s Founders Award.   

Mr. Kiely is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, and a member of distinguished medical societies such as the North American Spine Society, Scoliosis Research Society, and the Irish American Orthopaedic Association.
