Mr. Mazhar Iqbal (MB ChB, MRCS, FRCS SN, FEBNS) is a Consultant Neurosurgeon and Spine Surgeon at Mater Private Network in Cork.

Education & Experience 

Mr. Iqbal is a highly experienced Consultant Neurosurgeon and Spine Surgeon who specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the brain, spine, and nervous system.

With over 20 years of experience in leading hospitals across Ireland and the UK, Mr. Iqbal has developed particular expertise in complex spinal surgery, minimally invasive techniques, and neuro-oncology (the surgical management of brain and spinal tumours). 

Mr. Iqbal graduated from the University of Dundee. He trained in Neurosurgery the UK and is on the Specialist Register with both the Irish Medical Council and the General Medical Council (UK). He completed his Fellowship training in Complex Spine Surgery with both Otho-spine and Neuro-spine teams at Salford Royal Hospital. 

Known for his calm, patient-focused approach, Mr. Iqbal combines advanced surgical expertise with clear communication and compassion. He works closely with multidisciplinary teams to provide safe, high-quality care tailored to each patient’s needs.

Special Interests 

His areas of interest are complex spine instrumentation surgery, minimally invasive surgery using multi-modality intra-op 3D navigation, degenerative spine disorders, spinal tumours and peripheral nerve decompression surgery 

Clinical Research & Professional Memberships 

Outside of his clinical work, he is actively involved in teaching and research and regularly lectures at University College Cork. He has presented and published internationally on topics such as spinal surgery outcomes and neurosurgical techniques.
