Education & Experience
Mr. Karl Sweeney is a Consultant Breast Surgeon at Mater Private Network in Dublin.
Mr. Sweeney has 17 years experience as a Consultant Breast Surgeon.
Between 2007 and 2024 he held the position of lead surgeon for BreastCheck, Western Unit and honorary Senior Lecturer at University of Galway. He also held the position of Clinical Director of Surgery at Saolta (HSE) Health Care Group. His private practice was with Blackrock Hospital Group at the Galway Clinic and in the Bons Secours Hospital, Galway.
He qualified from UCD in 1996 and obtained his MD thesis at TCD prior to training at the prestigious Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre, New York. He has published extensively and lectured in the areas of Breast Cancer Surgery and Immediate Reconstruction, Breast Cancer Family History, Noncancerous Breast Disease including Breast Pain (Mastalgia) and Breast Aesthetic/Cosmetic Surgery.
