About

Background & Training

Dr. Timothy Barry graduated with honours in 2012 from University College Dublin (MB BCh BAO) and was awarded Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in 2014. He completed basic specialist training in internal medicine at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Dublin, and the Mayo Clinic in Arizona. He subsequently undertook internal medicine residency at the University of Pennsylvania, followed by fellowships in cardiology and advanced echocardiography at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona.

Before returning to Ireland, he served on staff at the Mayo Clinic’s Department of Cardiovascular Diseases in Arizona. He held academic roles as Assistant Professor of Medicine and Associate Program Director of the Cardiology Fellowship. 

He currently holds an ongoing academic appointment as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic. In July 2025 he returned to Ireland to join Mater Private Network in Cork as a Consultant Cardiologist. 

Clinical Expertise

Dr. Barry has a particular interest in the comprehensive evaluation and management of complex cardiovascular conditions, including:

• Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and other inherited cardiomyopathies
• Pulmonary hypertension and chronic thromboembolic disease (CTEPH)
• Complex valvular heart disease
• Advanced echocardiographic techniques including 3D and strain imaging
• Intra-procedural and interventional echocardiography
• Cardiac CT (Level 2) including coronary CTA and preprocedural imaging
• Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF)

Research & Publications

An active clinical researcher, Dr. Barry has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications. His research focuses on the use of artificial intelligence in cardiac imaging and the diagnosis and management of pulmonary hypertension.

Dr. Barry is a of Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and holds professional memberships of the Irish Cardiac Society,  American Society of Echocardiography (ASE), and European Society of Cardiology (ESC).
