About

Dr. Shahid Iqbal is a Consultant Medical Oncologist with a specialist interest in breast cancer. He provides comprehensive care for patients with early and advanced breast cancer, with expertise in contemporary systemic treatments and personalised cancer care. Alongside his clinical practice, he is actively involved in clinical research, international breast cancer trials, medical education and multidisciplinary cancer care.

Education & Experience 

Dr. Shahid Iqbal graduated in Medicine (MBBS) from Punjab Medical College, University of Health Sciences Lahore, Pakistan, in 2009. He completed postgraduate training in General Medicine and Medical Oncology and has worked in Ireland since 2014. He has been a Consultant Medical Oncologist since 2022, initially at Cork University Hospital and subsequently at Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Dublin. He holds the Specialty Certificate in Medical Oncology (UK), MRCPI, FRCP (Glasgow), a Postgraduate Certificate in Cancer Genetics from Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI).

Special Interests 

Dr. Iqbal has a particular clinical interest in the management of early and metastatic breast cancer, including hormone receptor-positive, HER2-positive and triple-negative breast cancers. His practice encompasses modern systemic anti-cancer treatments including chemotherapy, endocrine therapy, immunotherapy, HER2-directed treatments, antibody-drug conjugates, CDK4/6 inhibitors, PARP inhibitors and other targeted therapies. He also has a specialist interest in cancer genetics, genomic testing and personalised cancer treatment, as well as survivorship and multidisciplinary cancer care.

Clinical Research & Professional Memberships

Dr. Iqbal is actively involved in breast cancer research and serves as Principal Investigator for multiple international clinical trials at Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, including studies in early and metastatic breast cancer. He has published in peer-reviewed medical journals and presented research at national and international meetings including ESMO, the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium and ASCO-related meetings. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor at UCD School of Medicine, an undergraduate medical examiner, and an RCPI-approved trainer for Basic and Higher Specialist Training.
