About
Education & Experience
Dr. Ros Lavery graduated from University College Cork in 2013 and completed his internship and basic specialty training in Cork city and county hospitals. He completed a higher specialty training program equivalent in cardiology in Cork University Hospital, Mercy University Hospital, and Beaumont Hospital, Dublin. During this training he worked closely with colleagues developing an interest and understanding in advanced cardiac imaging.
In 2018, he was a finalist in the Brian Maurer young investigator award at the Irish Cardiac Society’s 69th Annual Scientific Meeting, presenting the topic: “An Investigation of Global Longitudinal Strain in Primary Mitral Regurgitation: A retrospective cohort of patients with mitral regurgitation.”
In 2022 Dr. Lavery commenced an advanced cardiac imaging fellowship at Mater Private Network, Dublin. Here he was exposed to and reported over 500 CT coronary calcium scores + angiograms, over 500 cardiac MRIs and 150 diagnostic transoesophageal echocardiograms. He was involved in 50 interventional transoesophageal echocardiographic procedures providing imaging assistance for percutaneous left atrial appendage closures, paravalvular leak plugging, mitral clips, tricuspid clips, ASD/PFO closures and VSD closures.
Whilst on fellowship he was involved in the “SETANTA” clinical trial, analysing T1/T2 maps on cardiac MRI in those who had recovered from COVID-19 infection. The primary outcome was to assess if there was any correlation between COVID-19 infection and pathological features on cardiac MRI. This trial was presented at the Irish Cardiac Society’s72nd Annual Scientific Meeting and at the American College of Cardiology meeting 2022.
In 2023, Dr. Lavery completed his master's in healthcare and quality improvement. His dissertation titled “The effect of impaired left ventricular global longitudinal strain in moderate/severe aortic stenosis on all-cause mortality and major adverse cardiovascular events: A systematic review and meta-analysis,” was highly commended and submission for publication is underway in a high-ranking medical journal.
