About

Education & Experience 

Dr. Mark Howard is a Consultant in Palliative Care at Mater Private Network, Dublin.

Dr. Howard graduated from Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) in 2005. He completed his general medical training in Dublin and gained further experience in oncology and palliative care in various hospitals around Ireland. He completed his specialist training in the UK in 2016, and has worked as a consultant in a North East London NHS Trust and a hospice unit. He has worked as a consultant in Ireland for over three years in acute hospitals, hospices, and with community palliative care teams. He joined Mater Private Network in Dublin in October 2025. 

Special Interests 

Dr. Howard led on the development of the digital healthcare record, digital interoperability, and digital palliative care coordination systems in his role in the UK. He was the medical lead for the outcome measure programme across two hospices. He has an interest in improving transitions for patients across care settings, as well as developing palliative services to adapt to a changing population. He has a keen interest in education, healthcare management, and leadership.  

Clinical Research & Professional Memberships 

Dr. Howard has been published in peer-reviewed journals, and his areas of interest include action research, outcome measures, vehicle driving safety, and digital health in palliative care. In the UK he led on the development of research infrastructure at his hospice, which enabled it to engage in multi-centre trials.

He is a member of the Irish Association of Palliative Care (IAPC), the Association of Palliative Medicine of Great Britain and Ireland (APM), and the Irish Palliative Medicine Consultants Association (IPMCA).
