About
Education & Experience
Dr. Dermot O’Callaghan is a consultant respiratory and general physician at Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and Mater Private Hospital, and is an honorary clinical lecturer and assistant professor with UCD. A graduate of UCD, he completed an MD thesis in lung cancer molecular biology at Trinity College Dublin before being awarded a European Respiratory Society international scholarship and subsequently completing a fellowship at the Centre de Référence de l’Hypertension Pulmonaire Sévère in Paris.
Special Interests
His main clinical and research interests include lung cancer and interventional pulmonology, pulmonary vascular disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. At Mater Private Hospital, Dr. O’Callaghan is the lead respiratory physician for lung cancer and has recently established the Lung Rapid Access Clinic for assessment of patients with suspected lung cancer.
Clinical Research & Professional Memberships
Dr. O’Callaghan has published more than 50 peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters and is an associate editor of the European Respiratory Journal and International Journal of Clinical Practice.
