Education & Experience
Dr. David Ramirez is a Consultant in General Internal Medicine at Mater Private Network in Cork, with extensive international experience across Ireland, Spain, and Colombia. He specialises in the assessment and management of patients with acute, complex, and multi-system medical conditions, providing comprehensive, patient-centred care across both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Dr. Ramirez graduated in Medicine in Colombia in 2008. Following early clinical experience in rural practice and emergency medicine, he relocated to Barcelona in 2011; there he completed specialist training in General Internal Medicine at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, one of Spain’s leading university teaching hospitals, in 2016.
He holds a Master’s degree in Infectious Diseases and Antimicrobial Therapy from Cardenal Herrera University, Spain, and has completed advanced training in Point-of-Care Ultrasound through the University of Coimbra, Portugal. Dr. Ramirez is certified in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) by the American Heart Association and has pursued ongoing postgraduate education in both Spain and Ireland, including a Diploma in Infectious Diseases from the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.
Before moving to Ireland, Dr. Ramirez held consultant posts in several tertiary referral hospitals in Spain, where he developed broad expertise in acute internal medicine, complex diagnostics, infectious diseases, and multidisciplinary care of patients with multiple coexisting medical conditions.
In 2025, he was appointed Consultant Physician at University Hospital Kerry, where he was responsible for acute medical admissions, inpatient care, and outpatient services. In 2026, he joined Mater Private Hospital Cork as a Consultant Physician.
Dr. Ramirez is known for his compassionate and holistic approach to patient care. He places particular emphasis on clear communication, shared decision-making, and building trusted relationships with patients and their families to support the best possible clinical outcomes.
