Education & Experience
Dr. David Padilla is a full-time consultant neurologist at Mater Private Network, Dublin.
Dr. Padilla obtained his Medical Degree in 2009 from the University of La Laguna, Spain. Before joining Mater Private in 2026, he worked for over 16 years at Hospital Universitario de Canarias (University Hospital of the Canary Islands), Spain, where he completed his official residency programme specialising in neurology, alongside a rotation at Trias i Pujol University Hospital in Barcelona and at the National Hospital for Neurology in London, UK. Dr. Padilla was responsible for setting up the Acute Stroke Unit in University Hospital of the Canary Islands and was the Stroke Unit Coordinator for four years.
In addition to his clinical roles, he spent four years as teaching assistant for medical students at the University of La Laguna, Spain, and has also been tutor for neurology residents and other specialties in University Hospital of the Canary Islands.
Special Interests
Dr. Padilla specialises in the management of stroke and epilepsy. He also provides expert diagnosis and treatment for multiple sclerosis and other demyelinating diseases, as well as post-stroke follow-up care and the management of cerebrovascular disease. He performs Eco-Doppler of intracranial and extracranial vessels, pre-operative assessments for cardiac and thoracic surgeries, patent foramen ovale (PFO), ultrasound-guided lumbar punctures, optic and peripheral nerve assessment, etc.
In addition, he manages a wide range of general neurological disorders, including headaches, movement disorders, inflammatory and infectious diseases of the central nervous system (CNS) such as Alzheimer's, Lewy body dementia, Parkinson's, and Huntington's diseases, as well as sleep disorders, dementia, ataxia, and neuromuscular disorders.
Clinical Research & Professional Memberships
Dr. Padilla has contributed to research on stroke, prionopathies (prion diseases), and central nervous system infectious and inflammatory diseases. He has presented his work at numerous regional, national, and international congresses. His work has been published in several peer-reviewed medical journals, and he has contributed chapters to neurology textbooks.
Dr. Padilla has been the secretary of the Care of Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke Committee for several years and has been responsible for ISO certification accreditation in acute stroke care. He has been a member of the Spanish Society of Neurology (SEN), Cerebrovascular Group (SEN-GEECV), and Canary Society of Neurology (SOCANE) since 2010.
