About

Education & Experience 

Ms. Heeney graduated with an Honours degree from University College Dublin in 2007. She completed the General Surgical Training programme in Ireland under the auspices of RCSI with a sub-speciality interest in Breast Surgery. She then travelled to the Royal Marsden Cancer Centre in London where she completed a fellowship in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery. She was appointed as a Consultant Breast Surgeon in the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in 2022 where she also works with the BreastCheck Screening Service.

Special Interests 

Ms. Heeney is trained in the assessment and diagnosis of breast-related symptoms and the treatment of benign and malignant breast conditions. She has a special interest in oncoplastic breast conservation surgery for breast cancer and has fellowship training in therapeutic mammoplasty as well as immediate reconstruction following mastectomy.

Clinical Research & Professional Memberships 

Ms. Heeney has a keen interest in academic research and she was awarded an MD from University College Dublin for lab-based research in physiology prior to entering the Higher Surgical Training programme. She has over 30 peer reviewed publications as well as numerous national and international presentations and has authored two book chapters. She is a member of the Society of Irish Breast Surgeons as well as the Association of Breast Surgeons in the UK. She regularly participates in post-graduate training with RCSI and examining undergraduate students in UCD medical school.
