Mater Private Network Hospitals Awarded Gold Standard Accreditation from the Joint Commission International

Location: Dublin

Mater Private Network has recently undertaken two rigorous virtual and onsite inspections in the previous six months on both Dublin (September 2020) and Cork (March 2021) sites.

The hospital’s success can be attributed to the resilient, consistent, and adaptable nature of Mater Private Network employees, whose hard work and flexibility over the last year ensured the hospital’s accreditation across over 1,300 measurable standards – a considerable feat given the extraordinarily challenging context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mater Private Network Cork has become the first hospital in Ireland to be awarded the new, inaugural 7th Edition Gold Standard from the Joint Commission International, marking the third consecutive accreditation of the site.

Similarly, Mater Private Network sites in Dublin and Limerick have been recognised for the seventh consecutive time with re-accreditation for their excellence in patient care and organisation management.

Joint Commission Standards:

Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with standards across organisational management and clinical care spanning several areas including emergency management, environment of care, infection prevention and control, governance and leadership, medication management, and patient and family rights in the healthcare setting.

The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with international healthcare experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help healthcare organisations measure, assess, and improve performance.

Conducted approximately every three years, these surveys help healthcare organisations to protect the public by identifying deficiencies in care and working with those organisations to correct them as quickly and sustainably as possible.

Comment:

Commenting on the announcement, Group Director of Quality and Patient Experience Audrey Doyle said:

“Within the last 6 months, the Mater Private Network team at the Dublin, Limerick and Cork hospitals have achieved Joint Commission International (JCI) reaccreditation in their triennial surveys.

Over the last 3 years, the team’s consistent focus and drive ensured ongoing compliance with the International Patient Care and Organisational Management Safety Standards.

JCI reaccreditation across Mater Private Network is a validation of our team’s determination to deliver High Quality acute complex care and a safe working environment for patients and staff. All levels of the organisation focused on the continued delivery of evidence-based, consistent, safe care to our patients and their families, and on the wellbeing of our staff.

The continued achievement of JCI accreditation across over 1,300 measurable standards during a COVID-19 pandemic year, highlights the can-do attitude and resilience of the entire Mater Private team as well as the professionalism and flexibility of our staff and consultants, who excelled in consistently adapting and coping with unexpected situations and challenges. I am incredibly proud of our team’s achievement.”
