Medical Social Worker 

Applications are invited to apply for the position of Basic Grade Medical Social Worker. 

This is a part time position covering Wednesday, Thursday & Friday, 21 hours per week.

Overview of the role: 

• Provide counselling, information and support as appropriate to referred patients and their families. 
• Help with practical problems and refer to appropriate agencies, advocating on behalf of patient as needed. This would include helping plan long term care and implementing arrangements as appropriate. 
• Liaise and cooperate with medical, nursing and other disciplines as appropriate concerning patients and be involved in the provision of a holistic approach to patient care. 
• Attend multidisciplinary patient case conferences as required 
• Provide education to other hospital staff on the role of the social worker and the appropriate referral of patients to the service. 
  

Requirements: 

• To possess social work qualification approved by Social Workers Registration Board or be NQSW qualified. 
• A minimum of two years post-qualifying experience is desirable.  
• Hospital experience preferable but not essential  
• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills 
• Awareness and sensitivity towards patient needs.
