About our services

Mater Private Network’s laboratories provide healthcare professionals with information to diagnose, manage and monitor their patients’ conditions.

The laboratory teams at Mater Private Dublin and Cork are multi-disciplinary and our consultants, medical scientists, laboratory assistants, phlebotomists, quality managers and laboratory managers work together to meet the needs of our users and stakeholders. We invest consistently in our teams and technology to support Mater Private Network’s vision and values.

Our laboratories provide the following services:

  • Clinical Biochemistry
  • Haematology
  • Phlebotomy (in phlebotomy department)*
  • Microbiology/Serology
  • Histopathology
  • Blood transfusion
  • Immunology
  • Point-of-care testing

Our Dublin phlebotomy/blood testing department is located on the ground floor of the hospital. Alternatively GPs can take a sample and send it directly to our laboratory.

  • Blood transfusion (IBTS at St. Finbarr’s Hospital)
  • Histopathology (MP Dublin)
  • Other testing (MP Dublin and other accredited laboratories)

Mater Private Dublin’s laboratory is accredited by the Irish National Accreditation Board (INAB) to undertake testing as detailed in the scope of tests listed on the INAB website (Registration Number 191MT) in compliance with International Standard ISO 15189:2012 and the EU blood Directive 2002/98/EC. Information on sample requirements, test repertoire and result turnaround times for both our hospitals are available in the relevant User Handbook/Manual which can be accessed below.

Laboratory results are sent to GPs via post or encrypted email. The Dublin laboratory can also send GP results via Healthlink.
