Mater Private Hospital in Dublin is located very close to the city centre on the corner of Eccles Street and Dorset Street, within a 10 minute walk from O’Connell Street.

The hospital is accessible by foot, bus, Luas or taxi from all main railway and bus stations in the city centre.

From the M50 northbound (from N11, N81, N7, N4)

At junction 6, use the left lane to take the N3 to Castleknock. At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto Navan Rd/R147. Continue straight on R147 for approximately 6 km. Go straight through Phibsborough village onto North Circular Road. At the first set of traffic lights, turn right onto Berkeley Road. Take the first left onto Eccles Street. 

From the N2

Take the N2 toward City Centre. Continue straight until you reach Botanic Road/R108/R135. Turn right onto Botanic Road. Continue straight and turn left onto North Circular Road in Phibsborough. Take the second right onto Berkeley Road. Take the first left onto Eccles Street. 

From the M1

Follow signs to the City Centre. Drive straight through Drumcondra, over the canal onto Dorset Street. At the fourth set of traffic lights, turn right onto Eccles Street.

Parking is in high demand, particularly during busy weekday periods. Please allow plenty of time to park and get to your destination. You may wish to consider using public transport if you are planning to visit during busy times. 

If you wish to drive to the hospital, there is both multi-storey and on-street parking available nearby.

Multi-Storey Car Parks

Mater Private patients can use the Mater Hospital’s public car park, located on Eccles Street. Coming from Dorset Street, it is on the right-hand side. Coming from Berkeley Road it is on the left-hand side. Look for the Euro Car Park sign. The car park has 440 spaces - please note the car park can get full during busy periods. 

The multi-storey car park is operated by Euro car parks. You can book a parking space online

To get to Mater Private from the car park, you need to walk a different route due to building works which will continue for the rest of 2022.

You should exit from the main entrance of the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital on North Circular Road. Turn right in the direction of Mater Private Hospital. Turn right again and walk along the pavement past the Mater Accident and Emergency (A&E) entrance, alongside the Mater Private building. Once you get on to Eccles street turn left and walk a short distance to the main entrance of Mater Private Network.

Please do not use the ramp to exit the car park, there is no pedestrian access to this route, it's for cars only and is not safe for pedestrians.

Other nearby off-street parking facilities include Wellington Street Car Park (off Dorset Street), Parnell Street Car Park, and Clery’s Car Park in Marlborough Street.


On-street parking

Parking is very limited in the area. There is on-street parking around the Hospital, particularly off the North Circular Road and Dorset Street. All on-street parking is metered. Always check the street signs to ensure you can park in a particular place and to check rates.

Rates vary per hour depending on the zone. Please note that street parking is very busy around the hospital. There is regular clamping in operation. Street parking is operated by Dublin Street Parking Services.

Green Line | Direction Broombridge | Stop: Parnell Street

Walk west on Parnell Street and then take the right turn onto Parnell  Square East. Continue along this road as it becomes Frederick Street North until you reach Dorset Street. Turn right.

Then turn left at Eccles Townhouse onto Eccles Street. Mater Private Network is a little further on the street on your right. For Further details please visit www.luas.ie

Red Line Stop | Direction Connolly/ThePoint | Stop: Abbey Street 

Head west on Abbey Street Lower toward Harbour Ct. Turn right onto O'Connell Street Lower. Continue onto O'Connell Street Upper. Turn left onto Parnell Street. Turn right toward Cavendish Row.

Continue onto Cavendish Row. Continue onto Parnell Square East. Continue onto Frederick St N. Turn right onto Dorset Street Upper/N1. Slight left to stay on Dorset Street Upper/N1 Turn left onto Eccles Pl. Mater Private Network will be on the left. 18 minute walk.

Walk towards the right, and take the next left on to Eccles Street. Mater Private Dublin will be on the right side of the road

Cross over the road and walk towards the left. Take the first right on to Eccles Street. Mater Private Dublin will be on the right side of the road


Dublin Bus 155 | Direction Bray Train Station | Stop 819: Blessington Street

Turn left onto Blessington Court. Turn right onto sidewalk, Turn left onto sidewalk. Turn left onto Dorset Street Upper and continue walking for 5 minutes. Turn left again onto Eccles Street. Mater Private Dublin will be on the right


Dublin Bus 41/41C | Direction Marlborough Street | Stop 51: Temple Street 

Cross over the road and walk towards the left. Take the first right on to Eccles Street. Mater Private Dublin will be on the right side of the road.


Dublin Bus 41/41C | Direction Abbeyvale Estate | Stop 1175: Upper Gardiner Street

Turn left on to Dorset Street Lower. Continue walking and then take the second right on to Eccles Street. Mater Private Dublin will be on the right side of the road.


Dublin Bus 44 | Direction The Helix | Stop 12: Upper Dorset Street

Walk towards the right, and take the next left on to Eccles Street. Mater Private Dublin will be on the right side of the road


Dublin Bus 44 | Direction Powerscourt National School | Stop 51: Temple Street

Cross over the road and walk towards the left. Take the first right on to Eccles Street. Mater Private Dublin will be on the right side of the road.

Drumcondra rail station, with services from Maynooth, Mullingar and Longford (10 mins walk).

From outside Dublin: Direction Heuston Station. 

  • Exit Heuston Station, and take the Red Line Luas from in front the station, direction Connolly/The Point. See Luas directions above. 
  • From Dublin (Connolly Station) | Directions: Maynooth, Phoenix Park Tunnel or Sligo/Longford | Stop: Drumcondra Dart Station
  • Turn right onto Drumcondra road Lower and walk for approx. 10 minutes. Turn right onto Eccles Place. Mater Private Dublin will be on your right

Café: there is a restaurant located on the ground floor which is open to the public and serves a wide variety of meals. There are also several cafés in the neighbourhood, please check Google Maps to see what is available in the area.

Shop: there is a Spar on the corner of Dorset Street and Hardwicke Street, two minutes from Mater Private Hospital.
