About our services
Pathology is the study of disease, its causes and progression.
Our laboratory provides healthcare professionals with information to diagnose and manage patients' conditions, their medication or to monitor the progression of a condition.
The Pathology Laboratory at Mater Private is a multi-disciplinary laboratory that includes:
- Clinical biochemistry / endocrinology
- Haematology / coagulation
- Blood transfusion
- Histopathology
- Immunology
- Microbiology
- Virology
Mater Private laboratory is accredited by the Irish National Accreditation Board (INAB) to undertake testing as detailed in the scope of tests listed on the INAB website (Registration Number 191MT) in compliance with International Standard ISO 15189 and the EU blood Directive 2002/98/EC.

Pathology services are available to patients by attending our phlebotomy/blood testing department on the ground floor of the hospital or by attending a GP who can take a sample and send it directly to our laboratory.
Information on sample requirements, test repertoire and result turnaround times are available in our Laboratory User Handbook which you can download below. Please ensure laboratory service users read the relevant section prior to taking a sample.
Laboratory results are available to GPs via HealthLink, post or email.
