MATER Private Cork is pleased to introduce three new consultant specialists to the team at Ireland’s newest private hospital at City Gate, Mahon, Cork.

Consultant Cardiologist and Cork-native, Dr James Dollard, Consultant in General Internal Medicine, Dr Adelina Muñoz Claros and Consultant Vascular and General Surgeon, Mr Gerald McGreal have taken up their positions at the Mater Private Cork.

The CEO of Mater Private Cork, Donna Roche, said: “We are delighted to welcome three experienced healthcare professionals to our team. At Mater Private Cork, our specialist team are equipped with the latest developments in medical and surgical science, focusing on diagnosis, treatment, and the latest interventions.”

Consultant Cardiologist, Dr James Dollard graduated from UCC with First Class Honours in 2005. He did his basic specialist training in Cork before embarking on higher specialist training in Cardiology and General Medicine. He worked in CUH and the South Infirmary in Cork in the early years of his training before pursuing a PhD in U.C.C. investigating microvascular angina. Subsequently he returned to complete his dual accreditation training in CUH and Mercy University Hospital and was awarded his CSCST in 2016. He has spent the last two years working in the Mercy University Hospital as a consultant general physician and cardiologist and established the resistant hypertension clinic there.

Dr Dollard’s subspecialty interest is heart failure and he is undertaking advanced training in this field at the Universitäts Spital Zürich in affiliation with the University of Zürich, Switzerland. He has also received advanced training in the performance and interpretation of cardiac CT.

Consultant in General Internal Medicine, Dr Adelina Muñoz Claros, originally from Málaga, Spain, graduated in Medicine from University College Málaga in 2007. She completed specialist training in Internal Medicine in 2014. During her training she worked at Carlos Haya Hospital and Virgen de la Victoria University Hospital in Málaga and Área de la Serranía Hospital in Ronda.

She has completed a Master´s Degree in Clinical Management of Autoimmune Diseases (2015) and a Master´s degree in Chronic Diseases Management (2016) at Barcelona University. Dr Muñoz Claros has worked on several research projects about studies of patient safety, chronicity, multiple pathology and polypharmacy.

Consultant Vascular and General Surgeon, Mr Gerard McGreal graduated with an honours degree from UCC in 1991. Basic surgical training at Cork University Hospital led to appointment as Surgical Lecturer at St. Vincent's University Hospital, Dublin, and subsequently, he was appointed to the Higher Surgical Training Programme, RCSI, working at Cork University Hospital and Beaumont Hospital, Dublin. After completion of General Surgical Training, he spent a year as Vascular and Endovascular Fellow at Sir Charles Gairdner and the Royal Perth Hospitals, Perth, Western Australia. He was fortunate to work with both Michael Laurence-Brown and David Hartley, co- inventors of the COOK endovascular graft.

Mr McGreal was appointed as Consultant Vascular and General Surgeon at Mercy University Hospital in 2002 and has worked in that capacity since then, introducing an arterial endovascular programme, a large carotid endarterectomy service, and the endovenous and open management of varicose veins. Unusually now for a vascular surgeon, he continues to practice in general surgery, being of the view that a broad- based practice helps maintain clinical acumen.
