Mater Private Cork is first in Ireland to embrace Apple technology to provide more efficient patient care

MATER Private Hospital Cork has taken a major step forward in the management of healthcare by being Ireland’s first hospital to introduce Apple technology exclusively throughout its two new medical centres at City Gate, Mahon, Cork.

The Orthopaedic and Spine Centre and the Ophthalmic Centre, which both opened in September, are paperless, allowing the hospital to deploy more resources to providing excellent care to patients.

Over 100 General Practitioners from the Kerry and Cork region were presented with details of the new developments during Mater Private Cork’s GP Study Day at the Hotel Europe, Killarney over the weekend.

The CEO of Mater Private Hospital Cork, Donna Roche, said: “Our key aim is to provide GPs with swift and easy access to in-hospital care for their patients. Our state-of-the-art-facilities allow patients to meet their consultants and physiotherapists, have their imaging and x-rays taken and receive post-operative care, efficiently, in the one centre. We are looking forward to welcoming GPs from the region to see the new Orthopaedic and Spine Centre and Ophthalmic Centre in the new hospital wing in the coming months.”

Consultant Doctors from Mater Private Cork discussed a range of topics including Orthopaedics, Ophthalmic Surgery, Dermatology, Gynaecology, Cardiology and Respiratory Medicine, Endocrinology, Emergency Medicine, Rheumatology and Surgery during the day-long event in Kerry.

All four most recently appointed consultant doctors – Dr Sarah Landers (Respiratory Physician), Dr Sally O’Shea (Dermatology), Dr Barry Hennigan (Cardiology) and Dr Len Harty (Rheumatologist & General Internal Medicine) - were in attendance to introduce themselves to the GPs.

Over the past 12 months, Mater Private Hospital Cork has doubled its capacity, opened a new ward and Emergency Department leading to an increase in staffing levels in a number of medical and administrative areas. Further development and expansion plans are at an advanced stage.

“Through this and other GP Study Events, we are keen to take this opportunity showcase the wide range of services that Mater Private Cork has to offer patients of GPs throughout Munster, without delay,” said Donna Roche.

Mater Private Hospital Cork is equipped with the very latest technology, private en-suite rooms and free parking for patients and visitors. The Emergency Department, which treats patients over 16, and Urgent Cardiac Care open daily, from Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm.
