The Mater Private Hospital has once again been awarded a 5-star rating by the European Society of Radiology, in recognition of its continued commitment to the highest quality standards of patient care. Ireland’s only private hospital to feature as part of the EuroSafe Imaging ‘Wall of Stars,’ the Mater Private originally secured this coveted accolade when the ratings concept was first launched in 2016.
Developed by the ESR under the EuroSafe Imaging umbrella, the Stars campaign was designed to promote quality and safety in medical imagining, by rating and recognising facilities worldwide that embody best practice in radiation protection. Judged across the five key principles of optimisation, justification, quality and safety, education, research and regulatory compliance, EuroSafe Imaging Stars participants were asked to perform a self-assessment and this time provide evidence under each category to determine their level of quality service and compliance.
Associate Professor Paddy Gilligan, Chief Physicist, Department of Radiology said, “We are delighted to have retained our top spot on the EuroSafe Imaging ‘Wall of Fame,’ but beyond the rating, this is testament to our continuous efforts to reduce radiation doses for patients and staff alike. Imaging remains a cornerstone of treatment and diagnostics, so it’s vital that we work in partnership with the ESR to achieve excellence as standard, with patient safety always at the forefront.”
The EuroSafe Imaging Star rating is valid for three years (October 2021) at which time it will be reviewed and re-evaluated in-line with industry standards. Currently, there are 104 EuroSafe Imaging Stars centres around the world: 90 five-star institutions, 13 four-star centres, and one department in Madrid with a three-star award. The Mater Private Hospital is Ireland’s only private hospital to have been awarded a 5-star rating and one of just five in the country to be listed on the EuroSafe Imaging ‘Wall of Stars.’
