Speaker: Dr. Bernard J. Gersh, Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, Consultant in Cardiovascular Diseases and Internal Medicine in Rochester, US.
Title: "Pathophysiology and management of atrial fibrillation and heart failure: Bad news for both"
Honorary Professor of Medicine at UCT, the Queen Mary University of London & Adjunct Professor of Medicine at Duke University. He received his MB, ChB, from the University of Cape Town & his PhD from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. He has published 1131 manuscripts and book chapters. He has received awards from the ACC, AHA, and in 2103 was designated at the ESC as one of four “legends of modern cardiology”. He has also received the Silver Medal of the ESC and the Gold Medal of the ESC in 2016. He is the 2015 recipient of the Mayo Clinic Distinguished Alumnus Award and recipient of the Distinguished Scientist Award of the American Heart Association.
Dr. Gersh's wide interests include the natural history and therapy of acute and chronic coronary artery disease, clinical electrophysiology and in particular atrial fibrillation, sudden cardiac death and syncope, cardiac stem cell therapy, and the epidemiology of cardiovascular disease in the developing world. He has approximately 1105 publications (959 manuscripts and 146 book chapters).
