The Mater Private Emergency Department provides immediate access to expert assessment and treatment. Whether you are acutely unwell or have a minor medical complaint, from a trapped nerve to a broken bone to severe pain, our emergency team is here for you.
This service is available for patients aged 16 years and over.

Minor Injuries, Sprains, Strains
Wounds and Lacerations
Sports Injuries and Fractures
- Unsuitable Patients
The service is not suitable for the following patients and we advise that you attend your local emergency department.
- Acute stroke / TIA, Neurological emergencies
- ENT emergencies
- Acute mental illness
- Metabolic medicine
There is no ambulance service available at the hospital.

The Emergency Department is led by Consultants specialising in emergency medicine and is an integrated service at the Mater Private hospital. You have access to all diagnostic services, investigations and treatments as well as to our extensive clinical and medical team should the need arise.
