Assessment, Diagnosis and Treatment of Retinal Eye Conditions

 

At the Mater Private Eye Centre, we offer rapid access to patients suffering from suspected retinal eye conditions such as:

  • Age Related Macular Degeneration
  • Diabetic Retinopathy
  • Retinal  Vein Occlusion
  • Retinal Detachment
  • Epiretinal Membrane
  • Retinal Tear
  • Macular Hole
  • Floaters and Flashes of Light

Assessment and Examination

In order to confirm diagnosis of a retinal eye condition, the Consultant will carry out a number of tests. Depending on your symptoms, that could include any of the following:

  • Fluorescein & ICG Angiography
  • OCT High Resolution Imaging
  • Colour Photography
  • Autofluorescence
  • Inherited Retinal Detachment
  • Clinical Trials (AMD, RVO, Diabetes)

 

Treatments

If following assesment at the Mater Private Eye Centre a patient is diagnosed with a retinal eye condition, we have a team of 6 Consultant Ophthalmologists based at our Eye  Centre who specialise in the treatment of retinal eye conditions. Depeding on your specific condition, you will be recommended one of the following treatments:

  • Anti-VEGF, Steroid Injections
  • Laser Photocoagulation
  • Vitrectomy
  • Membrane Peeling
  • Macular Hole Surgical Repair
  • Retinal Detachment Repair (includig paediatric)
  • Centra Sight (TM) Intraocular Telescope Programme
  • Low Vision Assessment & Treatment

Referrals to our rapid access service are reviewed by our Clinical Nurse Specialist within 2 hours of receipt of a referral and will be allocated to the appropriate or named Consultant.
All scans and appointments will be booked directly with the patient.
 
For any standard referrals, a referral form from a GP or Optometrist is required before an appointment can be made.
