Clinical Research & Professional Memberships

Mr. Max B Mahendran first set up the specialist phlebology practice at Shanakiel Hospital, Cork in 2007. He trained under Prof MacKay in Florida, in minimally invasive venous procedures and was first to introduce the endovenous laser ablation procedure for varicose veins in Cork. He also trained with Prof. Tessari from Italy in the foam sclerotherapy technique for varicose veins. Being a member of international societies in phlebology, dedicated to management of venous diseases, he is able to deliver cutting edge advanced management options to patients such as endovenous laser therapy, ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy and micro-incision phlebectomy in treatment of varicose veins. The minimally invasive procedures avoids painful groin incision and stripping of the truncal veins. These techniques can be applied to all age groups and to patients with medical co-morbidities. In younger patients, this offers quicker recovery and in older patients, a chance to remove painful venous problem causing phlebitis and ulcers without major surgery. The interventions offered are patient and disease specific to best fit the patient’s need, lifestyle and associated conditions.
