I qualified with my medical degree from UCD in 1987 and completed my Registrar Training Scheme in Diagnostic Radiology at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and Royal College of Radiologists in Ireland and UK. I received an MD from UCD in 1998 on ‘Functional Imaging in Breast Cancer’.
My fellowship training began in the Division of Breast Imaging/Division of Nuclear Medicine and PET Imaging Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, Barnes Hospital, Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri, USA."
My sub-specialty training is in breast radiology. I have a huge interest in clinical research and teaching in breast care management. I have many publications, and I continue to have an active role in clinical research. I am involved in numerous teaching programmes. I am a Senior Clinical Lecturer in Breast Radiology with University College Dublin. I was Chairperson of the National Quality Assurance Committee BreastCheck during the publication of the 2nd Edition of the National Guidelines in Breast Screening and I commissioned two external review surveys of the screening programme in Ireland during this time. I am currently on the Royal College of Radiology Quality and Education Committees I had an active role in introducing digital mammography to the screening and symptomatic units on the Mater campus.
"I am always keen to keep up with and to introduce new developments as soon as they come on stream. I have been keenly involved in developing a strong multidisciplinary team in Breast cancer on the Mater Private and Mater Misericordiae sites. At present we have state of the art facilities to include up to date screening and symptomatic services. We have a dynamic research programme with active participation in Clinical Trials."
