This is a full or part-time position (9 month maternity leave locum).

 

We are seeking a highly motivated chief medical scientist (haematology) to join our dynamic team in the pathology department.

 

About the role

  • Lead and manage the haematology laboratory, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery.
  • Oversee staff and delegate tasks to meet patient needs and departmental demands.
  • Champion quality management initiatives and ensure adherence to JCI and ISO 15189 standards.
  • Collaborate with consultants on clinical matters and laboratory practices.
  • Implement departmental policies and procedures, ensuring regular review and updates.
  • Manage budgets and resources effectively, optimising costs while delivering high-quality services.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance and selection, driving innovation within the laboratory.
  • Analyse data and present findings to monitor performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Participate in the recruitment, training, and development of laboratory staff.
  • Maintain accurate records of all laboratory tests and results.
  • Foster a safe and compliant work environment, upholding health and safety regulations.
  • Stay abreast of new developments and advancements in Haematology laboratory practices.

What you will bring:

  • Honours degree in Biomedical Science or a recognised equivalent qualification.
  • Fellowship of the Academy of Medical Laboratory Science (FAMLS) or eligibility for fellowship.
  • CORU registration or eligibility for membership upon completion of studies.
  • At least 7 years' experience in a medical laboratory, with 2 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork and communication.
  • In-depth knowledge of Haematology laboratory practices and quality management principles.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
