MRI

Routine MRI scans, Dynamic contrast enhanced scans including renal, carotid, liver, pelvis and arthrography and Specialised scans including Cardiac, Breast and Spectroscopy are all performed on-site.

Appointments for MRI can be made by contacting 01-8858173.  Referrals can be forwarded via fax to 01-8858693 or by e-mail to xraymri@materprivate.ie

All doctor’s referral letters for MRI scans are reviewed prior to making the appointment. The staff responsible for making MRI appointments will contact the patient directly to make the appointment once the letter has been reviewed.  Before giving a suitable date and time for the scan the staff responsible for appointments will go through a questionnaire with the patient ensuring that all responses are in accordance with requirements to have an MRI scan performed.

Reporting procedures

Our service level for reporting MRI results is within 48 hours.  All reports are posted to the referring doctor.

Healthlink:  Referring doctors who are set-up with Healthlink will receive reports via this system immediately following authorisation.

Fees

The Mater Private Hospital has a direct settlement arrangement with a number of Healthcare insurance companies including VHI, Hibernian Aviva, ESB and GMA for eligible members on an outpatient basis at the hospital.

An MRI scan eligible for direct settlement with VHI is one, which is carried out:

• On a VHI Healthcare member in accordance with referral from a Consultant registered with VHI after at least one consultation with that consultant
• In compliance with the clinical indications as laid out on the list of VHI approved clinical indications listed in the members handbook

The direct settlement arrangement will not apply for clinical indications not on the VHI list of approved clinical indications for MRI for which benefit is payable.

In the case of scans not eligible for direct settlement, the patient will be charged as per the current practice on the day the scan is carried out.
