Cardiac CT
The Mater Private Hospital was the first private hospital in the Ireland & the UK to install the world’s most advanced CT Scanner.
This Dual Source CT is a major breakthrough in the diagnosis of heart disease, enabling us to provide patients at the Mater Private with the fastest and most accurate scanning procedure currently available.
The Dual Source CT will enable radiologists and cardiologists to provide an accurate, non invasive method of detecting coronary artery disease.
The investment in this scanner reflects the continued commitment of the Mater Private to the newest advances available in disease diagnosis putting the hospital at the forefront of radiology imaging technology and cardiology services in Europe.
How does Dual Source CT work?
The idea behind Dual Source CT (128 slice) is simple: it uses two X-ray sources and two 64 slice detectors at the same time – double that of existing 64 slice scanners.
Dual-tube CT builds on current multi-detector CT technology to surmount some of the limitations of existing scanners. In particular, motion artefact, which can degrade cardiac images, is greatly reduced as is the need for pharmacological intervention.
The benefits for your patients
- Fastest cardiac acquisition within the shortest possible breath-hold.
- More accurate assessment of patients with suspected cardiac disease.
- Cardiac imaging with reduced need for pre-medication in many cases.
- Ability to image patients who were previously denied such imaging due to cardiac rate or rhythm.
- Potential to reduce radiation using advanced acquisition tools.
- New clinical imaging applications including cardiorespiratory, gastroenterology, neurology and oncology.

Reporting
The Dual Source CT represents a unique collaboration between Ireland’s leading Radiology and Cardiology teams at the Mater Private. Each scan will be analysed by this expert team and a complete report posted to you.
Coronary Calcification scoring is performed by the Radiologists and a report on the quantity, distribution and score of calcification in the coronary arteries is produced. The patient’s disease burden compared to age and sex matched populations may be derived.
Charges
The cost of Coronary CTA is €650.00 (includes Coronary Calcification Scoring).
