You and Your Healthcare Team

In addition to your consultant taking care of you while you are staying with us, there will also be a team of people involved in your care. You will come into contact with nurses, doctors and other health professionals. We all work together to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Please do not hesitate to contact any of your team at any stage should you have any queries about any aspect of your care.

By working with your healthcare team you can help make your hospital stay as safe and as comfortable as possible.

Identification

It is very important that we can clearly and correctly identify you at any given time.

  • On arrival you will be issued with an ID bracelet.
  • Check the information on your ID bracelet to make sure your name and date of birth are correct.
  • Please wear your ID bracelet throughout your stay.
  • If your ID bracelet comes off, please inform your nurse who will issue you with a new one.

Preventing the Spread of Germs

The hospital follows best practice guidelines in order to reduce the risk of infection. There are certain things that you as a patient can do to further reduce infection risks:

  • Hand washing is the most effective way to prevent the spread of germs and infections.
  • It is especially important to wash hands after using the toilet or before touching any operation site.
  • Depending on your planned procedure you may be asked to shower/bath with a disinfectant soap to reduce the risk of infection.
  • When in a shared room, ensure you use the individual towels and soaps supplied for your personnel use and take them with you when you leave the bathroom.
  • Let your nurse know if you require fresh linen or towels.
  • Ask friends and family who have colds, stomach bugs or other infections not to visit.
  • Avoid sitting on other patient’s beds.
