Mater Private Hospital Cork are delighted to announce that our brand new Emergency Department is now open for business.

The newest Emergency Department in Cork offers immediate access to expert assessment and treatment for urgent illness and injury, and should hopefully be a welcome addition to Cork. Cork University Hospital (CUH) recorded 1,300 people presenting at their Emergency Department over a 10 day period in June. The opening of the Mater Private Hospital's Emergency Department should hopefully take some of the burden off of the public A&E Departments and allow people greater choice of where to be seen, and ultimately shorter waiting times to be seen.

Our Emergency Department provides care for a wide range of illnesses and injury to patients aged 16 and over, including:

  • Acute medical and surgical emergencies
  • Respiratory and cardiac complaints
  • Sports injuries
  • Urological emergencies

Some exclusions do apply, including:

  • Acute stroke
  • Obstetrics patients
  • Paediatrics / Under 16s
  • Poisoning issues and toxicology
  • Psychiatric patients
  • Major trauma cases or patients in emergency ambulances
