Patient Care Essentials
The journey through cancer is individual to every person. Your journey is unique to you; never be afraid to ask us questions, for help or advice.
For many the journey to a cancer diagnosis starts with a referral by your GP to investigate symptoms. For others it is through regular screening. For some it happens very quickly and for others it can be a long process to get to diagnosis.
- A cancer diagnosis is made only after certain tests are done
- Your GP will refer you to a hospital specialist for tests
- Which tests are done will depend on the type of cancer suspected
- Some tests find (diagnose) cancer, while others stage it – staging finds out the size of the cancer and if it has spread to other tissues
