Radiotherapy

Radiotherapy treatment is delivered by the Mater Private at our department on Eccles Street Dublin and also through our satellite Radiotherapy department in Limerick Regional Hospital, which was open in 2005.

The department is under the auspices the Mater Private Hospital with a computer link between both radiotherapy departments. The presence of highly skilled, dedicated staff is central to our ethos and we are committed to continuous development in all our specialties.

State-of-the-art technology includes linear accelerators, a simulator unit, mould room facilities and extensive planning computer systems.   We currently have a Siemens Primus unit and a Varian unit with OBI and Cone Beam as well as a regular simulator.  IGRT and IMRT is used as gold standard for suitable patients with our prostate patients having Fiducial gold markers in place.

Radiotherapy may be used on its own to treat patients or may also be used in conjunction with surgery/chemotherapy. Treatment is planned on an individual basis and is usually delivered as an out-patient service from Monday to Friday.

There are currently 14 Radiographers working at the Mater Private in Dublin.  The Mater Private is the only site in Ireland using fiducial markers for prostate patients. OBI and cone beam are also being used regularly as required.

In the Mid-Western Radiation Oncology Centre we offer the highest quality treatment within easy local access while having the benefit of a larger, more established department‘s expertise on call if required.   Under the auspice of the Mater Private the same standards and quality of treatment and care apply and the same hospital ethos will also prevail.

The Mid-Western Radiation Oncology Centre is located in the Cancer Centre on the grounds of the Mid-Western Regional Hospital, Limerick. The centre works as part of the wider cancer services team and treats both public and private patients. Opened in October 2005, the Mid-Western Radiation Oncology Centre is operated by the Mater Private Hospital. Treatment is planned and delivered using modern linear accelerator, CT simulator and treatment planning software.
The on-site multi-disciplinary team consists of a Consultant Radiation Oncologist, Radiation Oncology Registrar, Radiation Therapists, Physicists, Nursing Staff and Dietician.

Following individual consultation, patients are treated on-site and are supported by the wider cancer services team within the HSE. The Limerick department consists of:
